Rainbow over Planet Bluegrass

Filed under: Lyons, Random Thoughts — Jennifer @ 10:34

We just got done photographing the Folks Festival at Planet Bluegrass in Lyons. Brian, the marketing director at Planet Bluegrass, asked us to take pictures of the event. Mostly crowd and environment photos with a little of the concert. It was our first time being concert photographers. I’m loading the images now and making the back ups but I had to stop and post this photo. It rained quite a bit this weekend but any optimist knows after the rain the rainbows appear and on Saturday, wow, we got a spectacular show. A gorgeous rainbow painted the sky above Planet Bluegrass. Steve took this image from backstage while Greg Brown was performing. I just love the silhouette of the guitar player and the slightly stormy sky.

One more shot and a story. I enjoy taking pictures with my husband, really I do :) We get a little competitive though - but it’s a good thing. Earlier in the day I took this photo of The Waifs performing. As usual Steve and I look over each other’s shoulders at our photos and show off our favorites. I proudly displayed this cool shot and I saw the little touch of competitiveness in Steve’s eyes. He even said “I like your shot better” which is a huge compliment :) But competition is a good thing because it put the inspiration in him to create the cowboy and the rainbow shot which I like the best.

I’ll post some more photos from the Folks Festival later this week.

Maryland Crab Feast

Filed under: Random Thoughts — Jennifer @ 10:23

Anyone from Maryland knows there is a huge crab tradition there. This weekend Steve and some of his fellow Maryland transplants air freighted a bushel of live Maryland Chesapeake Bay Blue Crabs to have an authentic Maryland crab feast

Maryland blue crabs are eaten in the hard shell steaming them in large pots with water, vinegar and seasoning (I’ve given away the secret ingredients in the photos below). After steaming the pot of crabs is dumped onto a newspaper lined table and the feasting begins.

I Shoot People Tour

Filed under: Random Thoughts — Jennifer @ 09:22

Education is a top priority for me so last night I went to the I Shoot People Tour hosted by Sallee Photography. The Sallee’s are fantastic photographers based in Texas and Wow, what a great seminar. My head is still spinning with ideas and tips. If you are a photographer and the Sallee’s are heading to your city - go to this seminar. They are so open and unpretentious. The knowledge they share is amazing. The albums they display will inspire you. My only advice is eat dinner before you go because they have to much to share you’ll be there for a while.

Dinner with MeRa Koh

Filed under: Random Thoughts — Jennifer @ 10:56

I love meeting other photographers and learning and sharing with them.  On Sunday I got the chance to meet photographer, MeRa Koh.  She was in Denver and arranged a quick dinner meet up.  MeRa is an incredible lady and it was great to spend some time picking her brain.  Three other photographers joined us Melanie of Firefly Photography and  Debi and Amanda of Kokoro.  We stayed after MeRa left and just chatted for another hour. Our photo is on MeRa’s blog so take a look.

Kayak Season is Upon Us, almost time for the Lyons Outdoor Games

Filed under: Adventure, Lyons, Random Thoughts — Jennifer @ 15:41

Lyons Rocks! I must say I live in a cool little town. 2 blocks from our house is an awesome kayak spot - the black bear hole (of course we call it the black dog hole in honor of Sparky dog) Steve and his buddy Shawn were there last week. I snapped this photo as they were leaving.

Lyons is hosting the 6th annual Lyons Outdoor Games on May 30- June 1. Biking, Kayaking, fishing, even a dog agility course. It will be a blast. Definitely plan to attend.

Boulder Chamber

Filed under: Random Thoughts — Jennifer @ 10:42

I was honored to be the featured photographer for the Boulder Chamber this month. I joined the Boulder Chamber for the business education I would receive but it has proven to be more valuable than that. The business connections and friendships I am developing have made my membership one of the best investments I have made.

Last night was the ribbon cutting and grand opening of Cantina Laredo in the 29th Street Mall. The food was fantastic - I can’t wait to bring my husband back for dinner.

The Chamber breakfast was hosted by Staples, also in the 29the Street Mall. The food was catered by Front Range Catering Co.. What a great turn out! The group practically took over the store. Staples was kind enough to give everyone goodie bags as we left (who doesn’t like presents :)

Finally, the Chamber social was held at Boulder Broker Inn. Another great turnout.

Photographing the events was a lot of fun and I am looking forward to attending many more. If you are a business owner join the chamber now - you won’t regret it.

Springtime in the Rockies

Filed under: Random Thoughts — Jennifer @ 12:59

On Tuesday it was close to 80 degrees.

On Wednesday it snowed.

Welcome to Springtime in the Rockies.

I don’t mind the snow. It was beautiful and the weather will be warm before we know it.

Hearts In Your Latte

Filed under: Random Thoughts — Jennifer @ 12:14

My husband, Steve, is becoming quite an accomplished barista. With some instruction from the wonderful folks at Ozo Coffee Co. he has been practicing and I have benefited with some wonderful coffee drinks. This morning he was able to pour his first latte art. I was quite proud :) When you meet me at my studio and the barista is in be prepared for a yummy espresso or coffee drink.
